Move Inventory

Select the article by entering the Product ID. Also enter the number and the source and destination location.

Press the Move button on the main screen. Enter the Product ID, quantity, source location and destination location. Press submit to process the move.

When to move stock

Moving is for stock that stays in your warehouse but changes place. The three situations that come up most often are replenishment, where you top up a pick location from a bulk location so pickers do not walk to the back of the building; consolidation, where you bring the remainder of two part-used pallets together to free up a bay; and reorganisation, where a product moves to a location that better matches how fast it sells. In each case the total quantity you own does not change, which is exactly why moving is a separate function from inbound and outbound.

What happens to your totals

A move is booked as one transaction: the quantity leaves the source location and arrives at the destination at the same moment. Your total stock for the product is identical before and after, so a move never shows up as a gain or a loss in your inventory value. The transaction history records the source, the destination, the quantity, the moment and the user, which is what lets you reconstruct afterwards why a product is no longer where someone expected it.

Before you move

Two checks prevent almost every failed move. First, make sure the destination location exists: if you are moving stock into a new rack, create the locations first, either individually or as a series. Second, check that the source location really holds the quantity you are about to move, because the app books the full amount or nothing at all. If a move is rejected, the usual cause is that part of the stock was already picked from that location and the movement was never registered. Counting the source location first will show you the real figure and correct it in the same step.
